Solar water pump or solar powered water pump is a pump running on electricity generated by solar panels. These pumps are used quite extensively for irrigation in India. Places where the grid electricity is unavailable, endpoint voltage is low or power cut frequency is high, solar pumps can be very useful. The typical capacity of a solar pump is 1 HP. However, it can be anywhere between 1 HP to 50 HP. The cost of solar pump depends on the pump capacity (1 HP, 5 HP etc), pump type (surface, submersible etc), head range (12 m, 70 m etc), discharge rate per day (35000 LPD, 135000 LPD etc), location and also on the quality of the products and services. The cost of 1 HP solar pump is around Rs 100,000.
